The common belief is that our differences in metabolism and genes is the cause of these variances, and metabolism does play it’s role. The more you exercise and the more muscle mass you maintain, the higher your metabolism and the more calories you will burn daily. However, metabolism is not the only factor.
What goes into your mouth is determining whether you will gain or lose weight. But it’s not the commonly understood number of calories, nor the commonly thought of “bad” foods that cause us to gain weight. It’s all determined by the type of foods you ingest, and and these common myths might really surprise you!
1. Avoid refined carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are the culprit to the rising obesity numbers in this country. So much of our diet is based on white flour products and all of those should be avoided. That means, breads, pastas, cookies, muffins, cakes, and alcohol etc… The only carbohydrates you should be eating for weight loss is non-starchy vegetables and whole grains such as barley, oats, legumes and brown rice.
2. Avoid sugars in any form.
Sugar and high fructose corn syrup is in just about everything these days and will surely send your scale sky rocketing. Avoid all sweeteners, sugars, corn syrups and even natural sweeteners such as honey, maple syrup and raw cane sugars. The only sweeteners you should be eating for weight loss is Stevia and sugar alcohols in limited quantities. Whatever you do, please don’t consume any artificial sweeteners!
3. Avoid processed foods in general.
The dieting industry has created such a flood of “diet foods” that are just bad for us because they are loaded with chemicals and processed foods. Avoid foods such as “low fat” and “low calorie” foods because they will contain processed substitutes. You are better off eating whole foods that can be picked, gathered or milked.

4. Load up on whole foods
